Tooth Jewelery
(previously published in The Experts Magazine)
Q: My friend and I want to have a diamond put on a tooth. She says we don't have to go to a dentist to get this done. Is it safe?
A: If you are talking about the tooth jewellery that is so popular, it is a perfectly safe and affordable way to dress up your smile.
Unlike the diamond put in by a dentist, no hole is drilled into the tooth. It is attached by using materials that have been used in dental offices for years. It does not hurt, nor does it cause any damage to the tooth it is placed on.
The tooth must be natural - not capped, crowned or false, as it will not stick and may cause damage to the false tooth,. The jewel must be applied to a flat surface, so the eye tooth is not a good choice, as it is too round a shape.
Once you have decided on the tooth to use, you must pick out the color of the crystal that you want. Because a diamond is not being used, it will be less expensive and also crystals come in different shades. Once the crystal is on, there are a few precautions to take to ensure that it sets properly. Then, you can eat normally, brush your teeth and floss as usual. This crystal is temporary - it may last from one month to a year or even more.
(I have had mine for over a year.)
If you are thinking of "taking the plunge", add a little sparkle to your smile. It's safe, it's affordable and most of all it's fun!
