Facial Massage
(previously published in The Experts Magazine)

Everyone knows that good skin care requires proper cleansing, toning and moisturizing every day. It's a lot like brushing our teeth - we just do it. But so often, we neglect to do that little extra by treating ourselves to a facial massage.

A professional facial massage has so many benefits. Every muscle and nerve has a motor point, and applying pressure to these points can do several things:

1) increase circulation of the blood supply to the skin. This will both nourish the skin and remove wastes.

2) contracts the muscle (when the movement is firm and rapid) thus strengthening weak muscle tissue. We do exercise our facial muscles by the various expressions we make throughout the day. Unfortunately, this results in "frown lines" and "laugh lines" - not at all what we want. Massage can help to smooth these lines out somewhat by stimulating the muscle without creasing the skin.

3) stimulates glandular activities of the skin. There are both oil glands and sweat glands in the dermal layer of the skin, and the massage movements will ensure that the secretions are flowing as they should, thus reducing blockage.

4) softens and improves the skin texture.

5) calms and relaxes, relieves stress and tension. It can take off five years in our appearance and to me, it is worth every penny. It is not a good idea to apply make-up immediately after having a treatment. Therefore, I like to recommend it be done at a time when you can go home rather than going right back to work or to an important function. Your skin will have a healthy glow, naturally.

Having regular professional facial massage can really help keep your skin in optimum condition
