ou may think you are saving time and money, but there is a very good chance that you are heading for disaster.

There are too many factors to consider in choosing a hair color and it really is best left to do the professionals to do it. Otherwise you could be spending even more time and money to get it re-colored.

When doing your consultation, your colorist will need to consider what you want, what you are working with, and how you are going to achieve it.

1. What color will suit you? This is extremely important, as everyone wants a flattering look. Consider your face shape, skin tone, and the type of cut required to show off the color and pull it all together.
2. What are you working with? What is the natural color? Is there a previous color? Remember, pigments in the artificial color are made to work with pigments already existing in your hair. The wrong combinations can produce a disastrous result ( for example, a color with a blue base will produce a green tone when used on the underlying yellow, pigment in blonde hair)
3. In what condition is your hair? If it is prelightened to achieve a high lift blonde, will the hair maintain its integrity?
4. What techniques are involved in applying the colors? Skill and training are definitely involved in this one.
5. Consider personality and lifestyle. Some colors are very high maintenance. Once you achieve this color how much time and money will be required to keep it?
